The hay trade activity was steady. Demand moderate for grinding alfalfa and
pellets, light for all other classes of hay; prices steady. Although Monday was
the first day of spring, most areas of Kansas experienced summer-like
temperatures over the weekend, ranging between the mid 80's to the low 90's.

www.agriculture.ks.gov. Drought conditions remained unchanged this past week,
with the abnormally dry (D0) category at 68.17 pct, moderate drought (D1) at
39.34 pct, severe drought (D2) at 9.01 pct and the extreme drought (D3) category
at .57 pct. According to the NASS Kansas Crop Progress and Condition Report, top
soil moisture rated 29 pct very short, 45 pct short, 26 pct adequate and 0 pct
surplus. Subsoil moisture rated 21 pct very short, 40 pct short 39 pct adequate

Southwest Kansas
Dairy alfalfa, grinding alfalfa, ground/delivered steady, movement slow to
moderate. Alfalfa: Horse, small squares 240.00-250.00. Dairy, .70-.80/point RFV,
Supreme 140.00-150.00, Premium 130.00-140.00, Good 110.00-130.00. Stock or Dry
Cow alfalfa, 75.00-95.00, with an instance at 110.00. Fair/Good grinding
alfalfa, 85.00-90.00. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots and dairies,
105.00-110.00, with instances at 115.00-120.00. The week of 3/12-3/18, 9,490T
of grinding alfalfa and 2,888T of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Corn stalks,
ground and delivered 70.00-80.00. The average paid by feedlots on February 1 for
alfalfa ground and delivered was 106.13, up .30 from last month, usage was
704T/day, down 14.5 pct, and total usage was 19,707T.
South Central Kansas
Dairy alfalfa, grinding alfalfa, alfalfa pellets steady, alfalfa
ground/delivered and stock cow alfalfa 5.00-10.00 higher, movement slow to
moderate. Alfalfa: Horse, small squares 230.00-240.00, Dairy, .70-.80/point RFV,
Supreme 140.00-150.00, Premium 130.00-140.00, Good 110.00-130.00. Stock cow
alfalfa, 90.00-95.00. Fair/Good grinding alfalfa, 75.00-85.00. Ground and
delivered locally to feedlots 100.00-110.00, an instance of 115.00-120.00. The
week of 3/12-3/18, 4,711T of grinding alfalfa and 1,422T of dairy alfalfa were
delivered. Alfalfa pellets: Sun Cured 15 pct protein 135.00-145.00, 17 pct
protein 145.00-150.00, Dehydrated 17 pct 200.00-205.00. Grass hay: bluestem, mid
and large squares 65.00-75.00, large rounds 60.00-70.00. Brome, mid and large
squares, none reported, large rounds 75.00-80.00. Corn stalks, ground and
delivered 80.00-85.00. Straw large rounds 40.00-50.00, Straw, mid squares 50.00-
55.00. The average paid by feedlots on February 1 for alfalfa ground and
delivered was 98.55, down 1.74 from last month, usage was 320T/day, up 11 pct,
and total usage was 9,268T.

Northwest Kansas
