Demand and Sales Comments
Hay prices are steady. There is demand for high quality hay with a limited supply. Lower quality hay and round package hay are discounted depending on condition and moisture of hay. Straw prices are for oat, barley, or wheat straw. Prices were steady for straw. Small square bales
averaged $4.92 a bale (range of $3.00 to $6.00). Large square bale straw averaged $63.00 per bale
(a range of $30.00 to $95.00). Large round bale straw averaged $50.00 per bale (a range of $25.00 -
$70.00).

In Nebraska, hay sold steady, Buyer inquiry for in-state buying is light with good demand from out
of state buyers. In Iowa, quality hay is selling for top prices. Lower quality hay is discounted.
Iowa hay report is now bi-weekly.

In South Dakota, prices are steady on alfalfa hay with very good demand for dairy quality hay and
straw. Greatest demand is from Wisconsin. There is a large supply of lower quality round bale hay.

In Missouri, good hay supply in the state. Hay demand is light; prices are steady. Concern in the
state is that cattle will be in mud again as snowmelts.

In Southwest Minnesota, prices were steady, with a supply of hay available at market. In Kansas,
hay trade is slow. Prices remain steady with slow to moderate demand. There are concerns of drought
in the state.

In Wisconsin, prices remain strong for top quality hay. Quality hay supplies remain tight with a
good supply of lower quality hay.
