South Dakota Weekly Hay Summary

All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack.

   Compared to last week:  Too few reported sales this week to 
make price comparisons.  Good demand from dairies for new crop, 1st 
cutting alfalfa.  Many producers report they were able to get a really
nice 1st cutting made, much better than last year, before it bloomed.
Rain came this week, severe storms in some areas, and the sun has
been out helping to regrow cut fields.  Dry weather now in the 10 day
forecast, with hot temps and plenty of wind.  All hay and straw sold by
the ton FOB, unless otherwise noted.

   Alfalfa:  Premium:  Large Squares, new crop 180.00-200.00.  Balage:
New crop contract, 1.10 per RFV point.  Good:  Large Rounds, old crop
140.00.  Fair:  Large Rounds, old crop 110.00.

   Alfalfa/Grass Mix:  Premium:  Small Squares, 6.00 per bale.  Good:
Large Rounds, 120.00.

   Grass:  Premium:  Large Rounds, old crop 120.00.  Good:  Large Rounds,
old crop 100.00.  CRP hay, Utility:  Large Rounds, 60.00 per bale.

   Straw:  Large Squares, 50.00 per bale.
