Hay Market Demand and Price Report for the Upper Midwest

Straw prices are for oat, barley, or wheat straw. Straw prices are steady. Small square bales averaged $5.00 a bale (range of $3.00 to $6.80). Large square bale straw averaged $47.00 per bale (a range of $26.00 to $65.00). Large round bale straw averaged $52.00 per bale (range of $38.00 – $67.00).

In Nebraska, hay sold fully steady. Demand was very good. Ground hay was priced at a premium.  In Iowa, no report.

In South Dakota, all classes of hay sold steady to higher. Good demand for all types of hay with concerns of a tight supply.

In Missouri, hay business is slowing down. Current concern: what are new hay crop prices?

In Southwest Minnesota, no report. In Kansashay market prices remain steady with a steady demand. Movement is slow. A few new crop prices have been reported.

 In Wisconsin, prices for dairy quality hay are steady. Lower quality hay has a wide range in prices in the market depending on demand. With delayed spring farmers may need to feed stored forages longer.
