Prices have a steady trend with a downward pressure and a limited supply of hay at quality tested hay auctions. Top quality hay is still selling at a premium. Straw prices are for oat, barley, or wheat straw. Straw prices are steady. Small square bales averaged $5.10 a bale (range of $4.00 to $6.00). Large square bale straw averaged $51.00 per bale (a range of $30.00 to $90.00). Large round bale straw averaged $49.00 per bale (range of $29.00 – $70.00). There was a limited supply of straw available.
In Nebraska, hay sold steady. Good demand and some hay is loaded and shipped directly off the field. Weather and weevils hay have reduced yields in areas of the state. In Iowa, no report.
In South Dakota, alfalfa and grass hay prices are firm with very good demand for top quality hay. 2022 crop harvest was delayed resulting lower RFV.
In Missouri, prices are steady to firm, supply and demand is moderate. Majority of first crop hay is harvested in the state.
In Southwest Minnesota, no report. In Kansas, dairy quality hay has a little higher price this week. Overall prices are steady with good interest and demand. Weather is a concern that yields may be reduced by drought.
In Wisconsin, prices for dairy quality hay are steady to strong. There is a wide range of prices in the market with lower quality hay discounted.
