Most hay classes generally steady

In Nebraska, alfalfa and grass hay sold steady. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets $10 higher. Ground and delivered mostly steady, with the western side of the state trading $3 higher, according to the USDA Market News Service, April 5. Prices given on per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.

Eastern/central—Good alfalfa, large rounds, $110. Good/premium alfalfa/orchard mix, large squares, $165-$175. Premium grass hay, large rounds, $100-$110, small squares, $160-$170; good, large rounds, $90-$95; fair, large rounds, $60-$75. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein or better, $270.

Platte Valley—Good alfalfa, large rounds, $110-$115. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $150-$160. Ground and delivered alfalfa-stubble mix, $135-$145. Ground and delivered cornstalks, $110.

In South Dakota, East River and West River areas, alfalfa hay steady to higher undertones on a light reported volume week, grass hay firm. No reported sales of straw or corn stalks. Good to very good demand for all types and qualities of hay, very good demand for straw and stalks.

In Missouri, the supply of hay is light, demand is moderate and prices are steady.

In Texas, most hay classes sold steady to weak. Movement was slow as hay only trickles onto the market this time of year with the wait for new crop about a month away.
