Compared to last week: A two tier market developed this week as producers
in the Eastern portion of the state have seen good moisture and spotty
warm weather which has produced lots of green grass, however
the Western portion of the state continues to see snow, with several
locations seeing 2-4 inches overnight. This has kept the hay market
steady in the western portions of the state. However, hay in the eastern
portions of the state has been hard to move as green grass has kept demand
for hay to a minimum. Producers in the eastern part of the state that still
have hay and want to move it have lowered prices in order to do so. Overall,
hay was steady to weak this week on very light sales volume. Grass hay sold
fully steady on light to moderate demand and offerings. Limited new sales
were seen this week. All prices are dollars per ton and FOB unless otherwise
noted.
