Demand and Sales Comments

This will be my last posted hay report. Next month Jason Cavadini will take on the duties of the hay report. Hay prices continue on a steady market. Straw prices are for oat, barley, or wheat straw. Limited supply at the auctions. Small square bales averaged $4.80 a bale (range of $3.50 to $7.00). Large square bale straw averaged $51.00 per bale (a range of $30.00 to $74.00). Large round bale straw averaged $55.00 per bale (a range of $32.00 to $80.00). Limited sales available.

In Nebraska, alfalfa hay prices are steady with very few sales. Most buyers are busy with grain and waiting for the first snowfall to think of hay buying.

In South Dakota, prices are steady with moderate demand. Top quality alfalfa for diary needs out of state is the greatest demand.

In Missouri, prices are steady with little demand.

In Kansas, slow demand this week. Prices remain steady.

In Wisconsin, prices for hay are steady. Fall grain harvest has provided little time for hay buying.
