Demand and Sales Comments

Dry weather continues, but decreased milk prices has reduced demand. Dry weather decreased yields and there are concerns of declining hay stocks. Straw prices are for oat, barley, or wheat straw. Limited supply at the auctions. Small square bales averaged $5.00 a bale (range of $4.00 to $7.00). Large square bale straw averaged $52.00 per bale (a range of $30.00 to $75.00). Large round bale straw averaged $62.00 per bale (a range of $37.00 to $90.00).

In Nebraskahay is selling unevenly steady. Good demand for nice green alfalfa, rained on hay is discounted.

In South Dakota, Prices are steady. Resistance to buy with current milk prices.

In Missouri, good to very good demand, supply is limited, and prices are firm.

In Kansasslow demand with steady prices and slow trade activity. Lower quality hay is moving to grinder market.

In Wisconsin, prices for hay are steady to strong. Dry weather and lower yields have concerned farmers as hay supplies tighten in the state.
