Compared to the last week: Alfalfa and Mixed hay sold fully steady. Square hay
supplies have tightened over the last few weeks as ranchers have bought on an
as need basis or as insurance in case of a drought. Many ranchers in southern
Montana have turned cows out or are close to doing so. This has limited demand
for feeding type hay. Hay supplies in rounds are mostly moderate. Many producers
are content with holding over excess hay in case of a dry summer. Grass hay supplies
are mostly moderate. Demand for grass hay has been light to moderate, with ranchers
buying on an as need basis. All prices are dollars per ton and FOB unless otherwise
noted.
