Ground alfalfa movement: Southwest/South Central
Tonnage: 8,786/4,784 Last week: 7,874/3,614 Last year: 9,325/3,800
Hay market trade activity is slow. Prices steady and demand light. The alfalfa
hay market remains steady for both price and sales, although producers are
reporting they are receiving more inquiries. The colder temperatures and winter
weather seems to have farmers feeding a little more hay now. According to the
U.S. Drought Monitor, the equivalent of a half an inch to an inch of
precipitation fell in areas across northern Kansas, from the last snow storm.
The precipitation was not enough to affect the D0-D1 lingering in northeast
Kansas. The abnormally dry (D0) category remains at 6 pct., and moderate
drought (D1) remains at .5 pct. The Kansas Forage and Grassland Council is
having their annual conference on December 11 in Emporia. Visit their website at
www.ksfgc.org for more information and registration. If you have hay for sale,
