Weekly Montana Hay Report

Compared to last week: Alfalfa hay sold fully steady. Demand 
continues to be mostly light to moderate on heavy offerings.
Open pasture and range land continues to curb demand for hay
as many ranchers haven’t started to feed yet or are just starting.
Out of state sales continue to make up many of the large volume
purchases this week. Drought conditions continue to spread across
much of the far western states as Oregon, Idaho and Washington are
all showing moderate drought conditions. Oregon, as of the latest 
release of the drought monitor has 34% of the state in extreme
drought. Montana by contrast has only 1% of the state in moderate
drought and 92% of the state is showing no signs of drought. All 
prices are dollars per ton and FOB unless otherwise noted.
