South Dakota Weekly Hay Summary

All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack.

Compared to last week: Alfalfa steady on all grades. Grass hay
not well tested compared to last week. Very good demand for alfalfa and
grass hay, as well as all forms of bedding. Dairies continue to have
poor margins making the limited high quality hay they need difficult to
acquire. Feedyards need high quality grass hay for calves, that are being
moved in, which has strong influence on this active market. A large area
of the state had light to heavy snow fall which made for poor feedyard
conditions and is influencing this already active market.
All hay and straw sold by the ton FOB, unless otherwise noted.
