Week Ending April 06th, 2018 For this week: Hay prices trended mostly steady to instances 10.00 dollars higher on higher quality hay. Demand was good. Supply was moderate. Temperatures for this coming week start off in the 40's and steadily increase into the 60's by midweek, signaling springs arrival. Iowa experienced fluctuating temperatures and sporadic precipitation in March. Wet, heavy snow the third week of the month left fields and roads soft and muddy, and delayed the seasonal rise in soil temperatures. Some manure and fertilizer was applied and there were a few reports of oats being seeded, but Statewide little fieldwork was done. Grain movement was brisk in much of the State, until slowed by snow. Calving and lambing continued but snow and muddy conditions caused some difficulties. Fluctuations in temperatures challenged livestock producers. According to the Drought Monitor abnormally dry conditions remained steady this week at 18.45%. Moderate drought conditions also remained steady at 7.61%, which is focused in the south eastern portion of the state. All prices FOB per ton unless otherwise noted.
