Weekly Texas Hay Report

   Compared to last report:  All hay classes traded mostly steady on very 
light to moderate movement.  Drought conditions and high winds posed fire 
threats across the Panhandle where livestock owners are still 
supplemental feeding and hay is scarce.  Dairymen and feedlots are having 
to travel far to find quality Alfalfa.  Some feedyards are changing 
rations and using cotton burrs which are cheaper and readily available.  
Coastal Bermuda producers in east and north Texas remain busy preparing 
for new crop.  Prices for hay and pellets quoted per ton except where 
noted.

Panhandle/High Plains:
   Alfalfa: Large Squares: Delivered: Premium to Supreme 225.00-250.00.
  Small Bales: Delivered: Premium 321.75, 9.75 per bale. 
   Ground Alfalfa: Delivered to feedlots: 175.00-185.00; Calf 185.00-
  205.00.         
   Coastal Bermuda: Large Rounds: Delivered: Good to Premium 160.00- 
  185.00, 80.00-92.50 per bale.
   Hay Grazer: Large Bales: Delivered: 135.00.
   Wheat Straw: Small Bales: Delivered: 4.75 per bale.
   Cotton Burrs: Delivered: 35.00-45.00.
