Week ending 04/06/2018 The calendar might say April but mother nature must use snail mail because she sure has not gotten the memo. Snow fell across much of north Missouri with several reports of 3 inches or so. Another cold front is expected to pass through on Friday bringing the possibly of another round of snow and record low temperatures. Most areas have some green but growth has just been extremely slow. The first crop progress report of the year was issued earlier this week. Pretty much goes without saying there hasn’t been none. The report really did not provide any surprises moisture levels for both top soil and subsoil overall are mostly adequate hay supplies are rated at 59 percent adequate to surplus and 41 percent short to very short which falls right in line with market activity and what we have been saying in this report for a few weeks now. Hay supplies are light to moderate, demand is light to moderate and prices are steady. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers.
