Week Ending April 13th, 2018 For this week: Hay prices again moved higher as cold wet weather delayed moving livstock back on pastures. Most hay producers have sold out of the best quality hay leaving producers scrambling to find forage for beef cattle and ewes. Temperatures in central Iowa warmed during the week with highs pushing 70 degrees. However, by the weekend temperatures were expected to fall into the 30s with rain and snow to follow.Soil temperatures have been slow to rise limiting the emergence and growth of grasses and legumes.Fieldwork for row crops has been at a standstill.
