Weekly Montana Hay Report

Compared to the last report: Both old and new crop hay sold steady in a very narrow 
comparison. Demand for the last trading session was mostly moderate to good with 
continued interest seen from southern drought stricken areas. Wyoming cow country 
continues to purchase large quantities of hay from Montana. Recent rains have been
a hindrance to many central Montana hay producers as producers have not had a long 
enough window to put up hay. Many acres have been rained on and will sell as feeder
hay. According to the drought monitor 9.10% of Montana is in a moderate drought, a 
decrease of 5.41% in the last 2 weeks. 45.18% is abnormally dry this week, a decrease 
of 7.08% in the last two weeks. Dry conditions have been reduced in the southern half
of the state, however an increase was seen across the highline. All prices are dollars 
per ton and FOB unless otherwise noted.
