Hay prices continue to be on a steady to strong trend. There is demand for high quality hay with a limited supply. Lower quality discounts are greater than in past depending on condition and moisture of hay. Straw prices are for oat, barley, or wheat straw. Prices were steady for straw. Small square bales averaged $4.83 a bale (range of $3.00 to $6.00). Large square bale straw averaged $64.00 per bale (a range of $35.00 to $95.00). Large round bale straw averaged $55.00 per bale (a range of $27.00 - $70.00).

In Nebraska, hay sold steady, demand was moderate. With snow and melting snow in the state people are calling on hay supply, but many are on the fence if to buy. In Iowa, quality hay is selling for top prices. Lower quality hay is discounted.

In South Dakota, prices are steady on alfalfa hay with good demand for quality hay. Other hay types speaking grass hay or mixed grass/legume has less demand.

In Missouri, good hay supply in the state. Hay demand is light; prices are steady. A good supply of fair quality hay, while top quality hay is a bit harder to find.

In Southwest Minnesota, prices were steady, with a slow to moderate demand. In Kansas, hay trade is slow. Prices remain steady with slow to moderate demand.

In Wisconsin, prices remain strong for top quality hay. Quality hay supplies remain tight with a good supply of lower quality hay. Very busy week at the auction.
