Kansas Hay Market Report

Ground/Grinding alfalfa movement: Southwest/South Central
Tonnage: 14,693/9,485 Last week: 12,664/8,408 Last year: 11,090/4,937

Hay market trade is moderate, demand was slow to moderate, prices remain steady
and most producers have reported that there is still plenty of grinder hay out
there. Winter finally arrived for much of the state on Sunday into Monday, with
some areas topping nearly 12 inches of snow. The areas needing the most
precipitation, however, received less than an inch. According to the U.S.
Drought Monitor, Kansas continues to struggle with moisture deficits that have
been present for more than three months. During the past week, the abnormal
dryness (D0), moderate drought (D1), and severe drought (D2) were expanded to
reflect the increasing dryness and its impact on winter wheat. If you have any
extra hay to sell and/or need hay here in Kansas, use the services of the
Internet Hay Exchange: www.hayexchange.com/ks.php.
