Weekly Montana Hay Report

Compared to last week: Alfalfa hay sold fully steady. Supplies of high quality alfalfa 
in squares are tight. Local hay sales continue to move hand to mouth on an as needed
basis. Local hay sales were moderate to heavy this week as ranchers are busy purchasing 
hay on this year’s taxes. Old crop hay continues to sell at steady money with several large
purchases seen this week. Supplies of old crop hay have started to dwindle as ranchers 
continue to purchase this hay at a discount to new crop. Demand for squares to ship east 
to the Midwest remains good. Much of the hay sold this week was fair to good quality, and
most sales are north of 200.00 delivered. Straw purchases remain active. Straw sold steady
to firm. All prices are dollars per ton and FOB unless otherwise noted.
