Weekly Montana Hay Report

Compared to last week: Alfalfa hay sold fully steady this week on good demand
for feeder hay classes, however sales volume was very light this week. Supplies
of hay continue to tighten as producers are beginning show lightened supplies.
However, many ranchers purchased large supplies back in February to help ensure
they had enough supplies to make it till grass time. This has many ranchers
purchasing hay on an as need basis. Very limited sales were seen this week,
however with another round of winter weather seen late this week producers
say interest has been very good to end the week. Grass hay continues to sell on
good demand, however movement, like alfalfa, has been very slow this week. Grass
hay sold steady with last week’s prices. Prices for straw remains steady on light
to moderate demand. Demand for straw has back off significantly in recent weeks.
Supplies remain very light. All prices are dollars per ton and FOB unless
