Kansas Hay Market Report

Ground alfalfa movement:  Southwest/South Central 
Tonnage: 9,847/4,824     Last week: 10,424/4,891     Last year: 9,019/3,870
             
Hay movement was moderate while demand remained moderate for all classes of hay; 
prices steady.  Producers, statewide, were thankful to finally see rain, with 
totals ranging from 2.0-5.0 inches, over the last ten days.   Despite the rain, 
drought conditions eased only slightly this past week. The abnormally dry (D0) 
category degreased to 90.42 pct, moderate drought (D1) decreased to 42.82 pct, 
while the severe drought category (D2) remained at 9.01 pct and the extreme 
drought (D3) category remained at .57 pct. According to the NASS Kansas Crop 
Progress and Condition Report, top soil moisture rated 8 pct very short, 18 pct 
short, 58 pct adequate 16 pct surplus. Subsoil moisture rated 8 pct very short, 
24 pct short, 63 pct adequate and 5 pct surplus. Hay and roughage supplies rated 
1 pct very short, 7 pct short, 83 pct adequate, and 9 pct surplus. Relief

Cow alfalfa, 75.00-95.00, with an instance at 110.00.  Fair/Good grinding

South Central Kansas
