Week Ending May 05, 2017 Compared to last week alfalfa and grass hay sold unevenly steady. Ground and delivered hay and dehy alfalfa pellets sold steady. Demand is sporadic. Some cattlemen are buying up last year’s alfalfa supplies and are stockpiling it for future use. Where other buyers buy on a hand to mouth basis. Non-spring like weather last weekend brought a lot of great moisture to most of the state. Rain with heavy wet snow accumulated across some areas. Talk around that the snow and frost will slow up the growth of alfalfa and grass. But there is some talk, dehy producers are going to start running some new crop through to test their plants out. Corn and bean planters were also halted as snow covered the fields. Many hope to be planting by weeks close as temperatures are to be in the 70’s. All sales are dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn, unless otherwise noted. Eastern/Central Nebraska Alfalfa: Supreme large square bales 150.00-155.00, Premium large square bales 130.00-140.00.
