Hay movement was very slow this week as rains continued to hold up haying activities for most producers. A very few new sales were confirmed but most hay sold this week had at least minor rain damage. In portions of southeastern Oklahoma dry conditions allowed haying of early season grasses but no sales were confirmed. Overall quality of early alfalfa has varied widely and yields were generally near average. Rains over the past two days for much of the state likely mean raking and swathing could resume this weekend if rains do not return. Demand was generally moderate for dairy alfalfa and dry cow hay, light to moderate for other offerings. Market News continues to maintain an online hay directory for both in-state and out-of-state hay producers. The directories are on the ODAFF homepage at www.oda.state.ok.us. Producers wishing to list hay are encouraged to call at 1-800-580-6543 or email jack.carson@ag.ok.gov.
