Week Ending May 19, 2017
Compared to last week alfalfa, grass hay, ground and delivered hay
and dehy alfalfa pellets sold steady. Some new crop alfalfa has been
baled since the last released report. Many producers are thinking about
cutting hay but have opted to let it stand until this storm system has
moved through the state. Dehy operators have been cutting and making dehy
pellets. Overall demand is light for baled hay. Many cattlemen have taken
cattle out to pasture and are not supplementing with hay. Standing
alfalfa hay price has been set at 45.00 per ton in the Platte Valley area
of the state. Per NASS: Corn planted was 78 percent, ahead of 71 last
year, and near 76 for the five-year average. Emerged was 31 percent, near
28 last year and 34 average. Soybeans planted was 37 percent, ahead of 27
last year, but equal to average. Emerged was 4 percent, near 3 last year
and 7 average. All sales are dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn,
unless otherwise noted.
