Colorado Hay Report

   Compared to last week, trade activity very light on moderate demand.  
Winterkill damaged alfalfa stands in southern Colorado are being replaced with 
oats and barley for this crop year.  Growers are intending to replant alfalfa 
after the cash crops come off.  According to the U.S Drought Monitor Summary for 
May 8, 2018, 81.98 percent of the state falls in a D0-D4 Drought Category 
compared to 12.38 percent a year ago.  Of those percentages, 51.57 percent falls 
into the D2-D4 categories.  The NASS Colorado Crop progress report for week 
ending May 6, 2018, stored feed supplies were rated 4 percent very short, 15 
percent short, 80 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.  Pasture and range 
conditions percentages are 14 percent Very Poor, 24 percent Poor, 31 percent 
Fair, 30 percent Good, and 1 percent Excellent.  The next available report will 
be Thursday, May 17, 2018.  All prices reported are FOB at the stack or barn 
unless otherwise noted.  Prices reflect load lots of hay.  If you have hay for
