Compared to last report: All hay classes traded mostly steady. New crop prices began to be discussed but not many confirmed sales just yet. Top quality alfalfa remained difficult to find and not much variety of hay available to change rations. Feedyards continue to use cotton burrs in their rations since it is cheaper and readily available. The Panhandle remains dry and yet to be seen if there will be much wheat hay on the market. Coastal Bermuda producers in the east have turned off dry and with the cool nights has slowed pasture growth which has delayed cutting and made sprigging difficult. Prices for hay and pellets quoted per ton except where noted. The Texas Department of Agriculture has Hay and Grazing Hot Line set up for Buyers and sellers looking for hay or grazing; the number is 1- 877-429-1998.
