Missouri Weekly Hay Summary

Week ending 05/18/2018

May means hay if a producers priority is bailing grass hay especially fescue
at peak quality. Producers who manage for quality year in and out know that
they sacrifice some yields in exchange for higher quality forages, however
due to the late start to the growing season early reports have those yields
even less than normal. Rains have been very scattered over the last week and
far from the wide spread moisture that would be welcomed by nearly everyone
especially those in the northwest part of the state. Producers would really
like to rebuild hay stocks but that looks to be shaping up to be a very
difficult task this year. Hay supplies are light to moderate, demand is
light to moderate and prices are steady. The Missouri Department of
Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers.
