South Dakota Weekly Hay Summary

All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack.

Compared to last week: Alfalfa and grass hay mostly steady. Demand
remains good for high quality hay of all classes, straw as well. Demand
much more moderate for lower qualities, especially the rougher hay,
grinding type hay. Once again heavy rains struck SE SD last weekend
just as many hay producers were making their second cutting of alfalfa
and first cut of grass hay. The window between rains has been very
narrow, making it difficult to get hay put up without rain on it.
More rain in the forecast for the weekend. All hay and straw sold by the
ton FOB, unless otherwise noted.
