Week ending 4/10/20
The spring roller coaster of temperatures continued this week. Last
weekend saw near freezing temperatures which was followed by a record
setting warm up, and then expected to end with freezing temperatures and
possible frost. Luckily temperatures are not forecasted low enough to do
any serious damage if frost does occur. The warm and dry weather for
most of the week really kicked things into growing gear. Field work
picked up and farmers stayed busy cutting in anhydrous, planting or
spreading dry fertilizer in field they hadn’t gotten to yet. Hay movement
has slowed as expected as producers turn to grass. There appears that
several farmers will have a decent amount of hay to carry over into the
new season. The supply of hay is moderate, demand is light, and prices
are steady. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory
available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or to view the
directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ for listings of hay
