Weekly Texas Hay Report

Compared to last report:  Hay trades are steady in all regions.  Light 
to moderate precipitation was reported across all the regions this week.  
The Panhandle received 1 to 3 inches of snow accompanied by two nights of 
freezing temperatures.  The impact of the freeze on the pastures and 
wheat aren’t quite known yet.  Hay trades in the Panhandle and West Texas 
have been limited due to uncertainty in the cattle markets.  Dairies in 
the region are liquidating cows as milk demand has fallen off in part due 
to school closures.  Excessive amounts of moisture in the Northern and 
Central regions is hampering the harvest of small grain forages and corn 
and sorghum planting.
