Colorado Hay Report

   Compared to last week, prices were steady with activity and demand good in 
all classes.  Growers are reporting a decrease in yields compared to last year.  
The NASS Colorado Crop Progress and Condition report for the week ending July 
16, 2017 states that isolated thunderstorms were reported in several localities, 
with varied precipitation received.  Irrigated crops are reported to be doing 
well with the warm temperatures, but in areas where moisture has been sparse, 
pasture and dryland crops are showing signs of stress.  Stored feed supplies 
were rated 4 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus.  Sheep 
death loss was 65 percent average and 35 percent light.  Cattle death loss was 1 
percent heavy, 68 percent average, and 31 percent light.  Alfalfa crop condition 
was rated 6 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 12 percent 
excellent.  Alfalfa second cutting is 41 percent complete.  Topsoil moisture was 
rated 7 percent very short, 31 percent short, 60 percent adequate, and 2 percent 
surplus.  Subsoil moisture was rated 4 percent very short, 27 percent short, 67 
percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus.  All prices reported are FOB at the 
stack or barn unless otherwise noted.  Prices reflect load lots of hay.  If you
