All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack. Compared to last week: Alfalfa hay steady. Demand moderate overall, in spite of drought conditions across the entire state of South Dakota. Drought conditions worsened again as the heat stayed over the region again this week, with only limited rainfall. There were some severe storms that brought 1-3 inches of rain along highway 14 but many areas were skipped over and left in desperate need of rain. The forecast remains hot and dry with little chance of rain. Tonnage of alfalfa has been drastically reduced as rain in July was so scarce. All hay and straw sold by the ton FOB, unless otherwise noted. Alfalfa: Supreme: Large Squares, 145.00-165.00. Premium: Large Squares, 130.00-150.00. Fair: Large Rounds, Old Crop 100.00. Sun-cured Alfalfa pellets: 15 pct 145.00; 17 pct 150.00. Alfalfa Meal: 17 pct 155.00. Alfalfa/Grass Mix: Premium: Old Crop Small Squares, 7.50 per bale. Grass: No Reported Sales. Straw: Large Rounds, 80.00 out of the field. Large Squares, 100.00.
