Hay demand depends on trading area

In Nebraska and the East River area of South Dakota, round bales of alfalfa are steady, square bales steady. Grass hay is steady. Ground and delivered hay steady. Dehydrated alfalfa pellets steady, according to the USDA Market News Service, July 13. Prices given on per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.
Eastern/central—Premium new crop alfalfa, large squares, $155; good, large squares, $130-$150, rounds, $70-$85. In Iowa, alfalfa hay sold mostly $5 higher, grass hay sold $10 higher.

In Montana, hay prices sold steady trending higher with drought conditions worsening. Sales are all new crop hay unless otherwise noted. Demand for all hay is good to very good on light supplies. In Colorado, prices were steady with activity and demand good in all classes.
