Week ending 12/15/2017 Starting to sound a broken record each week but once again lack of moisture has resulted in drought conditions becoming worse. The latest report now shows over 86 percent of the state in some stage of drought, a small portion of the state has now moved into extreme (D3) drought. Basically the only area not showing currently is the far northwest corner of the state. There still is not a lot of hay moving as most producers do current have hay on hand. Most sales that are taking place are either dairy sales or small bales going to horse owners. Overall hay movement is slow, supplies are moderate, demand is light and prices are steady. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or for a directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ for listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and per ton unless specified and on most recent reported sales price listed as round bales based generally on 5x6 bales with weights of approximately 1200-1500 lbs).
