Week Ending Aug 09, 2019
Compared to last week all reported forages sold steady. Buyer inquiry
was mostly light. Most areas of the state are in good shape for moisture
but some areas on the eastern side of the state and south central are dry
and could use some moisture. Some producers are finishing up on 2nd
cutting of alfalfa and some have started their 3rd cutting. Most cuttings
of alfalfa are roughly three weeks behind a “normal” year. Tonnage has
been good in some areas with lighter than normal tonnage in other areas
of the state. High humidity continues to plaque most of the state as it
takes a long time for hay to dry down to be baled without spoilage. Few,
reports from crop consultants in the central part, corn is on schedule or
1 to 2 weeks behind for this time of year Note: “All sales are dollars
per ton FOB the field or hay barn, unless otherwise noted.”
