Week ending June 05, 2020
Compared to last week old crop baled hay, alfalfa cubes and sun-cured
pellets steady on a light test. Best demand has been for alfalfa cubes
mostly going to horse owners across the nation. As of June 4th most of
the state is listed as abnormally dry by the US drought monitor. Most
producers have ran watered at least once and many are on their second
time through the field. Limited hay has been cut and baled in the western
areas. Quite a lot of alfalfa has been cut and baled in the eastern side
of the state. Some of the reporting areas in the east had been hit by
hail along with a few bug infestations. There is some optimism from
alfalfa producers that sell to dairies. June milk futures trading at
20.21 with July at 19.00. Around 30 days ago this price was in the 10.00-
11.00 range. “All prices are dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn
unless otherwise noted.”
