Week ending June 26, 2020
Compared to last week all reported hay sold fully steady. Will this
hay market move higher as dry weather continues across the state and
adjoining regions? That was a common topic on this week’s calls. Time
will tell. Several reports that local demand is very good and along with
good out of state inquiry. Most producers are done with first cutting in
the Eastern side of the state and the producers in the West are getting
in full swing this week. With very few showers, in most areas there were
a few reports that irrigation districts have started to limit water to
customers. With limited water if the rains don’t come second cutting
tonnage will be shorter than most are counting on. NOTE: “All prices are
dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn unless otherwise noted.”
