Compared to last week: All classes traded steady with moderate demand. According to the October 30, 2017 NASS Crop Progress Report, Precipitation was sparse last week throughout the State due to a large dome of high pressure which settled over the Great Basin. New heat records were set Monday across southern California as temperatures soared to the 100s due to a heat wave which covered the coast and inland. Temperature highs were in the 70s to 80s in the mountains, 70s to 100s along the coast, 80s to 90s in the valley, and 80s to 100s in the desert. Temperature lows were in the 20s to 50s in the mountains, 30s to the 50s in the desert and the valley, and 40s to 60s along the coast. Alfalfa fields continued to be cut and baled. Cotton continued to be harvested for lint and seed, and farmers were expecting a decent yield. Alfalfa fields were still going strong, and continued to be irrigated, cut, and baled. Sorghum fields were being harvested. Most summer crops have been harvested, and fields were being worked. Winter wheat planting was ongoing. Rice harvest was about one half done.
