Nebraska Hay Summary

Week Ending November 03, 2017

    Compared to last week large square bales of dairy alfalfa sold steady 
to 5.00 higher, round bales of alfalfa and grass hay sold mostly steady. 
Ground and delivered hay sold 5.00 higher and dehy pellets sold steady.  
Demand was good for dairy alfalfa and light to moderate for all other 
baled hay. Some producers are finishing up on fourth and fifth cutting 
hay. Big topic on this week’s calls was about the bushels of corn that 
fell off due to the excessive winds the last week. Several reports 
ranging from 30-100 bu/acre, most reporting 50-70 bu/acre.  Producers are 
trying to figure out there next move on how they will clean the corn out 
of the fields.  Bale it or graze it or windrow it and try to run it 
through the combine. Sure all ways will be tried to capture some loss 
that has occurred.  All sales are dollars per ton FOB the field or hay 
barn, unless otherwise noted.

Eastern/Central Nebraska
Alfalfa: Supreme large square bales 160.00-200.00; Premium large square 
bales 150.00-175.00. Good large square bales 150.00. Good large round 
75.00-85.00. Premium small square bales 190.00. Alfalfa/Grass mix: Good 
large round bales 85.00. Grass Hay: Premium large round bales 85.00-
90.00; Good large round bales 80.00-85.00; fair large rounds 60.00-70.00. 
Premium small square bales of prairie hay 150.00. Rye straw in large 
round bales 50.00. Ground and delivered alfalfa 115.00. Dehy Alfalfa 
pellets 17 percent protein 195.00-210.00.  

Platte Valley area of Nebraska
Alfalfa: Good large round bales 80.00-85.00, fair to good large round 
bales 75.00. Ground and delivered alfalfa 125.00-130.00. Alfalfa/Stover 
mix 115.00, Ground and delivered cornstalks 95.00-100.00. Dehy pellets 17 
percent protein 185.00. 

Panhandle of Nebraska
Alfalfa: Premium large square bales 160.00; Good large square bales 
135.00-150.00; Fair large square bales 110.00-115.00. Alfalfa/Orchard 
grass: Good to Premium large square bales 130.00-150.00. Grass hay: Large 
round bales 125.00 delivered. Oat hay in large square bales 90.00-100.00.  
Straw: Large square bales 60.00-70.00.  Ground and delivered alfalfa 
130.00-135.00.
