Compared to last week, trade activity light on moderate demand. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor’s National Drought Summary for August 14, 2018, a weaker-than-normal monsoon, coupled with record 1-month evaporative demand due to high temperatures, have stressed vegetation and lowered streamflow’s in Colorado. D0 was trimmed slightly in eastern Colorado where it has been wet, but D2-D3 expanded in the northwest to central region where precipitation deficits mounted and stream levels were low. According to August 12 USDA reports, 59% of the pasture and rangeland in Colorado was in poor to very poor condition, and 42% of the topsoil was short or very short of moisture. The NASS Colorado Crop progress report for week ending August 12, 2018, stored feed supplies were rated 7 percent very short, 17 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. 2nd cutting alfalfa progress is at 87 percent, 3rd cutting 29 percent. Pasture and range conditions percentages are 30 percent Very Poor, 29 percent Poor, 24 percent Fair, 15 percent Good, and 2 percent Excellent.
