Week ending 08/03/2018 The latest drought monitor currently has near 32 percent of the state in severe (D2) or extreme (D3) status basically unchanged from last week. The total percent of the state listed as abnormally dry or officially in some stage of drought climbed to right at 95 percent, a near 10 percent increase over the previous week. Although some areas are seeing some green from recent moisture the drought is sure nowhere near over. Many cattle producers are feeding at least some hay as grass has just run out. Hay supplies are light and farmers have fingers crossed that maybe there is a possibility for some fall growth still. Demand is very good a few farmers are finding some hay locally but most are having to truck hay in from other states. Hay prices are steady to firm. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or for a directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ for listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and per ton unless specified and on most recent reported sales price listed as round bales based generally on 5x6 bales with weights of approximately 1200-1500 lbs).
