Week Ending August 03, 2018 Compared to last week alfalfa in large squares mostly steady, rounds of alfalfa not enough sales to establish a market trend. Grass hay steady on a very thin test. Ground and delivered alfalfa steady. Dehy pellets sold steady. Demand was mostly light. Still up in the air on what the price of rounds bales of alfalfa may be worth. Grass hay production continues at a snail’s pace in a large area of the state. Wet meadows and rain continue to plague these productions areas. Second cutting tonnage on alfalfa has been very good with some reports of better than first in some areas. Few producers have started on third cutting. According to the United States Drought Monitor, a swath of light to moderate precipitation fell in an area roughly covering north and east Wyoming, east Colorado and much of Nebraska and Kansas with some of the heaviest precipitation falling in western Nebraska. All sales are dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn, unless otherwise noted. Eastern/Central Nebraska Alfalfa: Premium large squares 180.00-200.00; Good large squares 160.00. Good large rounds 100.00 delivered; Fair large rounds 90.00; Utility rounds 60.00. Grass Hay: Premium large squares 150.00 delivered. Good large rounds 100.00. Premium small square bales 160.00-170.00. Wheat straw in round bales 90.00. Large Squares 75.00. Rye straw in large squares 70.00 delivered.
