Missouri Weekly Hay Summary

Week ending 08/10/2018

Starting to sound like a sad record that has been played one too many times,
but about the only thing changed this week with the hay situation is drought
conditions have gotten worse. Currently 97.76 percent of the state is listed
on the drought monitor with 43.7 percent in the severe (D2) or above rating.
For the first week Exceptional (D4) status which is the highest or worst
rating has now made an appearance on the monitor. Several calls and listing
of hay from other states has shown up this week and there is hay being trucked
in but in many cases farmers are culling herds and reducing cattle numbers as
the cost of hay plus delivery cost is more than they can bear for what could
easily be an 8 month feeding season now for most. Hay supplies are light.
Demand is very good Hay prices are steady to firm. The Missouri Department of
Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be
listed, or for a directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ for
listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and per
