South Dakota Weekly Hay Summary

All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack.

   Compared to last week:  Very few reported sales this week.  Demand
only moderate.  As livestock markets have been under heavy pressure
hay users are looking to buy hay cheaper.  Supplies of dairy hay 
remain tight, much more available supplies of lower quality hay.
The weather turned warm over the weekend, melting off snow cover,
yet new crop hay is still two months away.  Large offerings again
in the area hay auctions.  All hay and straw sold by the ton FOB, unless
otherwise noted.

   Alfalfa:  Utility:  Large Rounds, 100.00.

   Sun-cured Alfalfa pellets:  15 pct 220.00; 17 pct 225.00.  Alfalfa
Meal: 17 pct 230.00.

   Grass:  Premium:  Small Squares, 6.00 per bale; Large Squares, 160.00;
Large Rounds, 120.00.

   Alfalfa/Grass Mix:  Fair to Good:  Large Rounds, 120.00.

   Straw:  Large Squares, 70.00 per bale del out of state; Large Rounds,
60.00 per bale.
