Colorado Hay Report

Compared to last week, prices were mostly steady. Activity and demand
moderate to good in all classes. Growers are reporting that moisture has
hindered harvest of hay and thus has decreased movement and quality throughout
the state. The NASS Colorado Crop Progress and Condition report for the week
ending October 8, 2017 states that reporters in the San Luis Valley noted that a
lot of hay is still down waiting to dry out. Across the state, livestock are
reportedly doing well with some leaving summer pasture and more cattle producers
starting to wean calves. Pasture and Range conditions were rated 2 percent very
poor, 14 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 45 percent good, and 14 percent
excellent. Alfalfa crop condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 11 percent
poor, 23 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Alfalfa third
cutting is 93 percent complete and fourth cutting is 35 percent complete. All
prices reported are FOB at the stack or barn unless otherwise noted. Prices
reflect load lots of hay. If you have hay for sale or need hay, use the
