Wyoming, Western Nebraska, and Western South Dakota Hay Report

   Compared to last week, prices were mostly steady with demand moderate to good 
in all regions.  The NASS Wyoming Crop Progress and Condition report for the 
week ending October 1, 2017 stated a reporter from North Central Wyoming 
indicated that corn silage harvest is complete and the livestock look good.  A 
reporter from South Central Wyoming noted that most ranchers have indicated that 
they have moved livestock back to fall pastures which is early for several.  
Pasture and range condition rated 9 percent very poor, 17 percent poor, 35 
percent fair, 37 percent good, and 2 percent excellent.  Alfalfa third cutting 
is 67 percent complete.  The NASS Nebraska Crop Progress and Condition Report 
for the week ending October 1, 2017 states that alfalfa condition rated 3 
percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 47 percent good, and 13 
percent excellent.  Alfalfa fourth cutting was 87 percent complete.  Pasture and 
range condition rated 5 percent very poor, 16 percent poor, 39 percent fair, 35 
percent good, and 5 percent excellent.  The NASS South Dakota Crop Progress and 
Condition Report for the week ending October 1, 2017 states that alfalfa third 
cutting was 75 percent complete.  Pasture and range condition rated 31 percent 
very poor, 25 percent poor, 26 percent fair, and 18 percent good.  All prices 
dollars per ton FOB stack in large square bales and rounds, unless otherwise 
noted.  Most horse hay sold in small squares.  Prices are from the most recent 
reported sales.
