Hay market activity slowed; demand moderate for grinding alfalfa, light for all
other classes of hay; prices mostly steady to slightly higher. Stronger
undertones that the market will continue to firm up were noted. Milder
temperatures arrived last week bringing with it much appreciated relief for man,
beast, and crop, but also desperately needed rain. Per NASS, Kansas alfalfa hay
condition rated 1 pct very poor, 8 poor, 30 fair, 57 good, and 4 excellent.
Third cutting was 65 pct complete, ahead of 53 pct last year and ahead of the 46
pct average. The abnormally dry (D0) category has increased to 50.61 pct and
moderate drought (D1) decreased a half of a percent to 4.83 pct. If you have
