Week Ending August 18, 2017 Compared to last week alfalfa and grass hay mostly steady, instances 10.00 higher. Ground and delivered forages and Dehy alfalfa pellets sold steady. Demand moderate to good. Much needed rain in a big part of the state this week. Some areas of the state received down-pours of heavy rain with reports up to 11.00 inches. Many areas of the central Nebraska had heavy hail that wiped out corn, soybeans, pastures and hay fields. Several ranchers are scrambling to find feed as they are having to bring cow/calf pairs and yearlings off grass and feed them. Quite a lot of alfalfa and grass hay cut and it has been on the fields for about a week in some areas. Cooler temps most of the week. However, sunshine and warmer weather are in the forecast. All sales are dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn, unless otherwise noted. Eastern/Central Nebraska Alfalfa: Good large square bales 140.00-150.00, old crop from 125.00- 130.00; Fair large square bales 95.00-110.00. Good large round bales 80.00-85.00, few at 95.00-100.00. Grass Hay: Good large round bales 80.00-90.00, few loads at 100.00. Premium small square bales 150.00. Cornstalks baled this spring in round bales 40.00. Ground and delivered alfalfa 100.00. Dehy Alfalfa pellets 17 percent protein 185.00-210.00. Platte Valley area of Nebraska Alfalfa: Good to premium round bales 100.00, Good round bales 80.00- 85.00. Ground and delivered alfalfa 115.00-120.00. Ground and delivered cane 105.00, Ground and delivered cane/cornstalk mix 85.00, Ground and delivered cornstalks 75.00-95.00. Dehy pellets 17 percent protein 190.00.
